The Commission
Two paintings of Highbury Place in North London, made in autumn 2007. One shows the afternoon light filtering through the trees under a grey sky. The other captures an autumn morning with warmer tones. Together they record the same place at two different moments, and the difference between the two reveals how much the character of a street depends on the time of day.
